I signed my contract weeks/months ago. Why are we not exchanged yet?
When you are selling a property, you will be asked to sign the contract way before the buyer will sign the contract. The buyer will only sign the contract when the final report takes place at the very end of conveyancing. You will sign the title, the deed and some of those other documents earlier, and they’ll ask you not to date them, and that's because they have to wait for exchange. So, when you’ve signed those documents for your solicitor, the other solicitor will still be doing the searches, raising inquiries, getting answers, waiting for the mortgage offer and lots of other bits and pieces. That's why you sign the contract at the beginning, but it takes quite a while before you exchange. You’re signing in preparedness for what's about to happen.
